Great Parks and HighGrain Brewing share a vision as community gathering spaces and environmental stewards working to create a sustainable future for Hamilton County and the greater Cincinnati region. Spanning 21 feet wide and 9 feet tall, the Great Parks Mural at HighGrain Brentwood showcases the vibrant plant and animal life found throughout Great Parks’ 22 destinations.
The first step of the design process was a team of Great Parks experts throughout Hamilton County working together to create a list of important species and locations. Often, my favorite part of creating a mural like this is being able to shine a spotlight on species native to Ohio that I know and love, but my favorite part of this particular project is that I got to learn so much about plants and animals that are new to me before I'd even put pen to paper!
Drawing inspiration from Great Parks’ mission, “Protect Connect Explore,” this mural celebrates our shared commitment to PROTECT natural spaces through a culture of sustainability and conservation. The power of community is evident throughout, as neighbors CONNECT with each other and their surroundings through outdoor adventures. Inspiring a sense of wonder, the mural invites all who view it to EXPLORE the outdoors and embrace the joy it offers.
Special thanks to Curly the black vulture (a Great Parks animal ambassador) for attending the mural unveiling and helping us teach folks about how awesome and important vultures are!
